Most attendees will be graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and early career faculty and research staff working in fields relevant to the ITER program. Although the agenda will focus on topics of scenarios and control, attendees are not required to be working in those subfields.

All nationalities, whether representing an ITER member or not, are welcome. Attendees from countries not part of the US Visa Waiver Program are responsible for obtaining their own visa (you can request an invitation letter when you preregister). Please be aware that obtaining a visa can be a time consuming process and we urge you to start the process immediately. See the bottom of this p

Note that the school will be held in person; no remote participation will be supported.

The response to IIS2022 has been suprisingly enthusiastic. At this point we have enough preregistrations to fill our meeting space to capacity and we have collected a number of additional preregistrations on a waiting list..

Participants at the 11th IIS will be required to comply with all federal, state, local, and University of California restrictions in place for COVID-19.

In the unlikely event that we have to cancel the meeting due to official UCSD or California restrictions on travel or gatherings, a full refund will be provided to all registrants.

1. Registration - You will be asked to preregister with a brief CV and a motivation letter*. For this, use the Pregistration form. Please select Regular Attendee as Type of submission. No payment is required at this stage! If, in addition to attending the lectures, you are willing to contribute with a poster, please include also an abstract of your poster with your Letter of Motivation and CV all together in the same file. Simply upload the whole document using the "Upload abstract" form, independently of whether you present a poster or not. All attendants are encouraged to present their work on plasma physics applied to nuclear fusion (the poster session will not be restricted to the topic of scenarios and control).

2. Payment - After your preregistration is confirmed you will be sent a link for payment. You will have the option of:

   • A registration fee of $300 includes on-campus housing (double occupancy) and all meals

   • A registration fee of $100 includes lunches only (no housing or parking provided). This option is mainly provided for those who live in the San Diego area; please be aware that hotels in the UCSD area can be very expensive.

   • Note that fees do not include: transportation to and from the school venue and parking

*The motivation letter doesn't need to be long… just tell us why you want to attend and how this program will be of value to you.

1. You should have been contacted first by the Chair of the IIS.

2. Submit the abstract of your lecture, with a brief CV and a photo via the Preregistration link above.

3. No payment is required.

We are anticipating a grant from IAEA that will allow us to provide financial assistance to a small number of students. We will post more information on this as it becomes available. This assistance will only be available to students who are citizens* of the countries included by the IAEA Department of Technical Cooperation.

*We have been advised that only nationality is counted here, not the student's affiliation

Many non-US participants will need a visa to visit the United States for IIS2022. If you require an Invitation Letter for your visa application please check the corresponding box on the preregistration form. The organizers of the school will study your request and will come back to you as soon as possible. After validation of your request, you will receive a Visa Invitation Letter that you may use at your Consulate/Embassy.
