The 11th IIS will be held at the
University of California San Diego

COVID-19 Prevention Information

  • Masking while in Atkinson Hall is encouraged, but not required.

  • Attendees are encouraged to test within 24 hours of the event. There is no requirement to check vaccination status for those attending this event.

    • Please note that there are stricter guidelines for testing and masking if you are staying in campus housing. Please see the Housing page for details.

  • Existing UCSD students, staff and faculty must complete their daily symptom screener.

    • Must have green thumb to attend.

  • Outdoor seating will be available directly outside Atkinson Hall for event lunches.

Getting to UC San Diego

  • Those arriving by air should fly to San Diego International Airport (SAN), which is about 12 miles from the UCSD campus.

  • The new San Diego Trolley UC San Diego Blue Line recently opened (not yet shown on the above web page).

    • The Trolley does not go all the way to/from the airport, but information on public transit between the airport and Trolley is here.

  • Uber, Lyft, taxis, and airport shuttles are all available at the airport.

  • Driving directions to the UCSD campus can be found here. That page also has links for information about visitor parking and public transportation options.

    • We discourage those of you who will be staying on campus from renting a car as parking is very tricky (hard to find and expensive) on campus.

    • Notes on Parking: B permits are only valid until 11 p.m. If you wish to park overnight in the same B spot, you will need to purchase a D parking permit that allows for one to park in an available A, B or S, (provided it does not say A/B/S permit required 24 hours 7 days a week,) which will allow you to park from 4 p.m. to 7:40 a.m.

Atkinson Hall

  • The conference will be held in the Atkinson Hall Auditorium.

    • The Auditorium seats over 200 guests and is equipped with super-high-resolution cinema-quality projection and surround sound, as well as a built-in webcasting system and teleconferencing.

  • Registration (check-in and receive name badge) will take place in the Atkinson Hall lobby beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 25. School will begin at 9 a.m. See agenda for details.

  • Atkinson Hall is located in the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering.

  • Please note that parking is very tricky (hard to find and expensive) on campus. We highly encourage conference attendees to not bring a car.

Tips:

  • If you see the bear rock statue, you are in the right place!

  • If you get lost, google maps works really well on campus for walking directions!

  • Please arrive early on day 1 to allow for time to check-in.

  • We recommend that you bring paper and a notepad or your computer to take notes.

  • For international students: the U.S. operates on a 120V supply voltage and 60Hz. Be sure to bring the necessary adapter for your computer. We will not have any on-site for you.

    • Information about US power plugs and sockets can be found here (external website)

  • There is free guest wifi on campus.

Lunch & Snacks

  • Lunch and snack breaks will be provided to all conference attendees at no additional cost outside of the conference registration.
